TABLE ROCK ART GUILD TO EXHIBIT 197 VERY SPECIAL WORKS OF ART
March 6 th through March
13th
The Tri-Lakes area is home to many, many wonderful artists – working in a wide variety
of mediums – ranging from watercolors to woodcarving, from pottery to photography, and from oils to acrylics. And the
work of many of those artists is on display year round at the Table Rock Art Gallery in Kimberling City. Well, almost year
round. One week a year, the gallery is dedicated to displaying artwork produced by local school children ranging in age from
five to eleven.
The question often arises as to "What is art"? Leo Tolstoy offered a pretty good and simple
definition… "If only the spectators or auditors are infected by the feelings which the author has felt, it is art."
And oh how pure the world of art is, when seen and felt through the eyes of a child.
Twelve different schools in Branson, Reeds Spring, Hollister, Blue Eye and Forsyth are
participating this year, and there will be a total of 197 works of art on display at the gallery beginning on March 6 TH and continuing through March 13th.
If it’s been a while since you’ve had the opportunity to enjoy the purity of a child’s creation –
why not take the time to visit when the Table Rock Art Guild hosts the 24th annual Children’s Art Show this year – and perhaps, if you’re really lucky and time it just
right, you’ll even meet some of the budding artists themselves. Competition was held throughout the Tri-Lakes area school
districts, and one child from each class in the participating schools was chosen to be a featured artist at the Art Show.
Without the tireless help of the school teachers whose names are listed
below, the Guild would not be able to make this a reality – so we want to recognize
and extend our appreciation to these dedicated individuals as well. Each piece of art submitted by the children will be professionally
matted and a backing added by Guild volunteers, and each piece will then hang in a place of honor in the gallery. Each piece
of art will also display a blue ribbon as an award for winning the individual competitions.
The schools involved are: Blue Eye Elementary – with 12 classes represented (assisted
by Ms. Julie Casebourn), Branson Primary – 7 classes (Mrs. Nancy Longo), Branson Elementary East – 20 classes
(Mrs. Regina Seaman), Branson Elementary West – 24 classes (Mrs. Stephanie Turk), Branson Intermediate – 21 classes
(Mrs. Susan Evans), Branson Primary / Intermediate – 14 classes
(Mr. Caleb Williams), Forsyth Elementary – 25 classes (Ms. Alice Schofield), Hollister
Elementary – 21 classes (Ms. Cindy Canfield), Hollister Middle School – 10 classes (Ms. Shelley Martin), Reeds
Spring Primary – 8 classes (Mrs. Carrie (Blehm) Dresslaer), Reeds Spring Elementary – 23 classes (Ms. Kathy Page 2 of 2
Manjeot) and Reeds Spring Intermediate – 12 classes (Mrs. Linda Philipian). A special
heart-felt thanks to all of the above mentioned teachers – the Guild could not do this without you.
The Table Rock Art Gallery is located in the Kimberling City Shopping Center (by the bridge),
and the hours are 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The address is 11863 State Highway 13, Unit 11, in Kimberling City, and the phone number
is 417-739-5829. Mrs. Linda Furse, the Chairperson of the Guild’s Children’s Art Show, is working vigorously to
ensure the success of this show. Linda said she is hoping for record-breaking attendance this year so the budding artists
will know first-hand the delight of having their artwork seen and appreciated by hundreds of people! If you have any questions
or comments you’d like to direct to Linda or the Guild regarding the show, please feel free to contact us at artshow@suddenlink.net.
